Concrete is an essential part of civil engineering. This is not all that surprising considering that concrete is strong, sustainable, cost-effective, doesn’t burn or mold, and reduces energy needs for buildings. This is not all that surprising considering that concrete is strong, sustainable, cost-effective, doesn’t burn or mold, and reduces energy needs for buildings. Concrete is an ancient construction material.
And concrete today is still based on a few ingredients: water, cement, sand, gravel and stone. Complex products are formed, by varying proportions, utilization of supplemental cementing materials or the addition of specialty admixtures. All to meet customer needs. Today we can design concrete for specific purposes, for example, underwater structures, bridges subjected to harsh weather, or other structures with extreme requirements. Concrete is a natural material and we are constantly working to make manufacturing more environmentally friendly. For example, cement can be substituted with fly ash or slag. And hardened concrete absorbs CO2 from the air, even when reused as a filler.
Here we can see the 195 Thirteenth Street Condominiums being built. We have supplied 26,500 cubic yards of custom tailor-made concrete, and we are able to considerably reduce lead times for the concrete to reach full strength, allowing the work to proceed without delays.
Concrete is an important part of our daily lives, even though we’re not always aware of it. This is what we specialize in and what we work with, together with our customers, every day.
